Meet the Founder

Mrs. Dorathy Ukemezia is a distinguished environmental sustainability expert with over 10 years of experience in Climate and Environmental Sustainability. As the Founder of Eco-Green Africa, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership in implementing impactful programs centered on climate action, waste management, recycling, and the circular economy. Through her visionary leadership, she has successfully managed these projects from conception to completion, ensuring they align with global sustainability goals.

Her role at Eco-Green Africa involves providing strategic direction, mobilizing resources, and securing funding for various initiatives. Under her guidance, Eco-Green Africa has grown into a highly respected organization, known for its practical and scalable solutions to environmental challenges, particularly in climate actions, plastic waste management, recycling initiatives in schools and communities as well as climate and environmental sustainability capacity building.

 

In addition to her work with Eco-Green Africa, Mrs. Ukemezia serves at the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), where she plays a crucial role in driving climate policy development and implementation. She has contributed to Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), gender-responsive climate action strategies, and has worked on integrating climate considerations into heritage site management as part of Nigeria’s NDC 3.0. Her involvement at the Federal Ministry of Environment also saw her contributing to environmental impact assessments, further cementing her expertise in regulatory frameworks and environmental policies.

Mrs. Ukemezia has received several prestigious recognitions for her outstanding work. She was honored by the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for her dedicated service and contributions in environmental sector. In recognition of her leadership and impact in climate action, she was also celebrated by the Rotary Club for her unwavering commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

A passionate advocate for climate action, Mrs. Ukemezia has collaborated with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, and the private sector. Her efforts extend to international platforms, where she works alongside global leaders to deliver Nigeria’s position at major climate forums such as COP28. Her work exemplifies her commitment to sustainability and resilience-building, particularly within Nigeria’s informal economy and youth empowerment sectors.

She has received both national and international recognition for her outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability. One of her accolades includes being recognized as a Global Schools Advocate, representing the Global Schools Program—an initiative of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), which aligns with UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development for 2030 roadmap.
